Fleur de sel de Guerande


Fleur de Sel de Guerande is a quality artisan salt from the village of Guerande in Brittany, France. It is gathered by hand from the salt marshes, then sun dried, only in the hot summer months of July and August, and is among the best fleur de sel available. Fleur de sel forms as a thin, delicate crust on the surface of the water, while the ‘ordinary’ sea salt sinks to the bottom. It has a powerful salt flavour, more complex, full and robust than standard salt, and is used as a ‘finishing’ salt or table condiment rather than for cooking, where it would lose its wonderful flavour. As it is completely unrefined fleur de sel retains its mineral complexity, making it a much healthier product than for example table salt, and also because its flavour is so robust a little goes a long way.
